Happy International Women’s Day!

Today we celebrate the achievements and the inspiring women of Magpies 🖤🤍

#Internationalwomensday2024 #magpiesstaff #inspiringwomen #womenrolemodel #womenofstrength
On International Women's Day we celebrate the achievements and influence of women worldwide. Today, we spotlight one remarkable woman of Magpies...

JASMINE FUHLBOLM | For 7 years, Jasmine has been an integral part of the Magpies family, starting her journey as a youthful 17 year old. What makes Magpies more than just a club for her is the profound sense of community, the familial atmosphere, and the meaningful relationships she has cultivated with both staff and patrons. Magpies, to Jasmine, is not merely an establishment; it's a distinct culture.

Jasmine draws inspiration from her remarkable role model, her mother, whose strength shone through during a challenging time. Losing her partner, Jasmine's father, to a heart attack when she was just 10 years old, she witnessed her mother's resilience and hard work, principles that have become deeply ingrained in Jasmine. The loss of her father compelled her to mature quickly, instilling in her a drive to make a positive impact. Motivated by her personal journey, Jasmine has dedicated herself to a cause close to her heart. In response to her father's passing, she tirelessly raised over $7,000 and heightened awareness about the crucial need for defibrillator machines. Her efforts reached various charities, organisations, and locations within the Mackay community that lacked access to this vital resource.

Jasmine's pride lies in her career at Magpies, a journey that began as a barista and recently led to her appointment as the Duty Operations Manager at the remarkable age of 24. The pinnacle of her achievements was being honoured with the @MackayCouncil 2024 Mackay Young Citizen of the Year Award.

For young women aspiring to carve their paths, Jasmine offers empowering advice: "It's your life, and only you can steer it. Run your own race, and don't get caught up with other people's success. Everyone is different and capable of great things."

This Friday marks International Women's Day, a time to celebrate the achievements and influence of women worldwide, recognising the ongoing journey towards gender equality. Let's commemorate the progress in empowering women from various backgrounds and fields. Today, we shine a spotlight on one of the amazing women of Magpies....

JESS PEARCE | Meet Jess, our extraordinary Food, Events and Reception Manager. Born and raised in Bowen, she ventured to Mackay in 2015, fuelled by a sudden desire for change. Seven years ago, she embarked on her journey at Magpies, starting in the Hub Cafe and gracefully rising through every department of the club.

Jess's story is not just about professional success but also a tribute to her remarkable inspiration, her Nan. A powerful maternal figure, Nan's influence shaped Jess's values and character. The loss posed a significant challenge, altering family dynamics, yet Jess emerged stronger, driven by the legacy of her beloved Nan.

Her ascent to a Senior Managerial position at Magpies is a testament to her dedication and tenacity. As an Indigenous woman, Jess has defied odds and shattered stereotypes, proving that with determination, anything is possible. Her message to young women echoes her own journey: never relinquish hope, take ownership of your dreams, and persist in the face of adversity!

In her journey, Jess found unwavering support and mentorship from her colleagues – Sarah, Kerry, and Michelle. These women inspire her, showcasing the strength of unity and the impact of a supportive community.

XIANGHONG LI | Meet Li, one of our staff members here at Magpies. Originally from Shenzhen, China, a city near Hong Kong, Li embarked on a new chapter in her life when she moved to Australia in 2014 to join her husband in Mackay. Back in China, Li dazzled audiences as a singer and performer, specialising in the mesmerising art of face changing, a highlight act of Sichuan Opera. Her talents have taken her across the globe, with performances in Singapore, Russia, Malaysia, and Indonesia. She recently performed her act at Magpies to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Since joining the Magpies family three months ago, Li has found a sense of belonging and warmth, describing it as a big, welcoming family. Despite facing challenges, including her husband's recent diagnosis of prostate cancer, Li remains resilient and grateful for the support of her colleagues, particularly Kelsey, who has been a wonderful mentor and friend. While hospitality initially sounded daunting to Li, she has since embraced the opportunity Magpies has given her, finding joy in the challenge, and gaining confidence every day. Her advice to women chasing their dreams? Never give up. Persistence is key, and with determination, success is inevitable.
